About the Position:
Position is primarily responsible for support of the Health Information Services Department in an administrative capacity. Duties will be carried out at Goodwin House Alexandria, Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads and the View Alexandria when needed.
This position only works 4 days a week (20 hrs total)
The hours are 9am-2pm
The job is split in person at our Falls Church and Alexandria location.
Job Duties:
- Performs duties related to health record management to include, but not limited to, receipt, sorting, preparation, scanning and destruction of clinical records according to the established guidelines set by the Goodwin Living Health Information Services department. This includes both paper and electronically generated documents from both internal and external sources.
- Performs qualitative and quantitative analysis of the scanned documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, legibility and integrity of the scanned records.
- Responsible for tracking, retrieving and performing follow up activities to ensure accessibility of health record as needed.
- Inspects physical equipment to ensure proper feeding of scanner sheets and makes reasonable effort to identify cause of potential errors.
- Identifies concerns with electronic record document management. Reports concerns to the Health Information Manager in a timely manner so as not to interfere with the completion of job responsibilities.
- Maintains confidentiality of all health records in all formats by complying with all established Goodwin Living policies and procedures, and all applicable regulatory requirements to ensure privacy and security of health records.
- Assists with storage and annual destruction of paper medical records based on regulatory destruction schedule.
Job Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Must have excellent computer skills.
- High school diploma.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with others.
- Previous experience in healthcare setting/ health information technology is highly desirable.
- Must be organized and demonstrate the ability to follow guidelines.
- Ability to perform job functions and communicate effectively while under pressure.
- Familiar with medical terms and must be able to identify medical documents/records through a basic knowledge of medical terminology.
- Must be knowledgeable about resident confidentiality and privacy requirements and familiar with HIPAA requirements. Must follow the organization’s security rules.
- Must communicate and collaborate well with co-workers, clinical and medical staff
