About the Position
Responsible for assisting Patients with their personal care, such as bathing, grooming, dressing, feeding, toileting, etc. Teaches and encourages Patients in developing skills by which the Patient can reach his/her highest level of functioning. Encourages and supports Patients' families. Serve the Patients joyfully, with gratitude and humility. Help to promote a warm, friendly, environment for the Patient in their place of residence.
If the Home Health Aide is employed full-time in a salaried position, it is expected that if he or she does not have a full schedule, that he/she will report to the Director of Home Health Services to perform other clinical or administrative duties as assigned. The salaried Home Health Aide is expected to work eight hours daily, with a mix of home health visits and office work.
Job Duties
- Assist the Patient in activities of daily living with transferring, eating, showers, bed baths, pericare, oral hygiene, nail and hair care, shaving, dressing, grooming, toileting, etc.
- Assist the Patient with care of sensory aides, such as glasses, contact lenses, hearing aides, dentures and bridges, etc.
- Assist with monitoring intake and output, weight, height, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, etc.
- Ensure timely and efficient documentation of the items listed above.
- Monitor environment for safety and infection hazards and report any problem areas to visiting home health nurse.
- Monitor own practice for compliance with state regulations for CNA practice standards.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
- Be punctual and communicate if unable to arrive at scheduled time. Notify Patient and Case Manager of delay.
- Offer support and comfort to residents and families.
Job Requirements
- Would prefer at least four months experience as a CNA whether at this facility or in total from previous positions.
- Have compassion and respect in working with older people.
- Able to keep information regarding residents/families confidential
- Must be a Virginia Certified Nursing Aide in good standing.
- Experience with care for hip fractures/replacements, dementia/Alzheimer, and stroke manifestations preferred.
- Will attend and participate in continuing educational programs designed to keep employee abreast of changes in their particular profession.
- Must be able to travel, have a valid driver's license and own reliable transportation.
- Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the Patients, and other health care personnel.
- May be required to lift, push, pull and move Patients, supplies, etc. in excess of fifty pounds throughout the workday. Getting assistance when needed is a must.
- Must be able to lift, reposition and transfer Patients using weight belt and proper body mechanics.
