EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONDER SECURITY OFFICER (FULL-TIME)

Job Summary:

The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive environment for residents, team members, and visitors within the community. This position is responsible for monitoring the property, responding to emergencies, and providing immediate assistance during medical, safety, or security incidents. The EMR Security Officer serves as a calm, professional first responder, working closely with local emergency services and internal team members to ensure resident well-being and regulatory compliance.

This position will work Monday-Friday 3pm-11pm

The pay starts at $24/hr

Essential Duties:

Safety & Security

  • Ensure the safety and security of designated properties, assets, personnel, and visitors by regularly patrolling and inspecting premises and controlling access to the building/property.
  • Conduct routine patrols of buildings, grounds, and common areas to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Monitor security systems, access points, and alarms. Report any malfunctions or deficiencies with systems or equipment.
  • Apprehend and detain perpetrators according to legal protocol before arrival of authorities and remove wrongdoers or trespassers from the area.
  • Monitor parking areas to ensure compliance with community parking policies, address unauthorized or unsafe parking, assist with traffic flow during events or emergencies, and report or escalate violations in accordance with community procedures.
  • Be familiar with Goodwin House Alexandria’s natural disaster and emergency management plans. Assist with large-scale emergency preparedness and evacuation planning.
  • Write incident reports any on-premises thefts, burglaries, vandalism, disorderly conduct, etc.

Emergency & Medical Response

  • Respond immediately and effectively to medical emergencies, falls, fire alarms, elopement risks, and other critical incidents.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide efficient care utilizing all basic interventions.
  • Provide first aid, CPR, AED use, and other emergency responder-level care within scope of certification.
  • Coordinate with nursing team and local emergency services (EMS, fire, police) during emergencies.
  • Accurately document incidents, responses, and outcomes in required logs and reports.

Resident Support & Customer Service

  • Provide security across the campus and emergency medical response for independent living residents
  • Interact with residents respectfully and compassionately, maintaining dignity and calm during stressful situations.
  • Assist residents during emergencies or evacuation procedures.

Compliance & Communication

  • Maintain compliance with state, federal, and local regulations governing senior living and emergency response.
  • Participate in emergency drills, training sessions, and safety meetings.
  • Follow up on reports of missing items, theft, vandalism, and other potential criminal activity.
  • Submit reports of daily surveillance activity and important occurrences.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a current Emergency Responder Certification (e.g., EMT, First Responder, or equivalent).
  • Active CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required.
  • Valid Security Officer License required (as required by state or local regulations).
  • Previous experience in security and emergency medical response required. Some experience in healthcare or senior living highly preferred.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and decisive under pressure.
  • Strong observational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Demonstrated empathy and professionalism when working with seniors.
  • Proactive, vigilant and detail-oriented approaches with a strong commitment to quality, efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Flexible to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
